If a woman requires IUC replacement because it is due to be
changed, a same-day replacement is preferred.
If the device is malpositioned, but not perforated through the
uterine wall, a same-day replacement is preferred.
If a perforation has occurred, and the device can be removed in
the office, a new device should be placed after 4-6 weeks to allow
the uterus to heal. Backup should be used.
